This Fitness Theory Exam is based on the Fitness Theory Performance Standards for the Basic Fitness Leader, as recommended by the National Fitness Leadership Alliance. Prerequisites: minimum 1 year St. Clair College FHT Certificate, two year college diploma in the Health, Fitness, Recreation field or BHK degree. Candidate must hold a valid CPR certification and must successfully attain 80% pass on theory exam.

NFLA FITNESS GROUP PRACTICAL EXAM

This practical exam will require a candidate to be evaluated while teaching a group fitness class that is based on the NFLA Group Fitness Performance Standards. Evaluation will be based on Leadership skills, communication, basic knowledge of human anatomy, basic knowledge of the biomechanics involved in human movement, the ability to demonstrate an understanding of methods that ensure safe and effective exercise execution, demonstrate an understanding of music tempo, and be able to offer a variety of different class formats. Prerequisites: Successfully attain 80% pass on the NFLA National Fitness Theory Exam, and hold a valid CPR certification.

KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS

Some say knitting has become the ‘new yoga’ because it tends to improve concentration, manual dexterity and literacy skills, and at the same time helps to build self-esteem and confidence. Photography

Equipment Recommendations:
A camera with the ability to independently set aperture and shutter speeds, or a digital camera of at least 4 megapixels with the same abilities as above. A tripod is also required for section 050. The ability to trigger external flash is also recommended. If you do not own a camera currently, you may want to wait and speak with one of the instructors during the first class, prior to purchasing a camera.

FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Basic principles of photography will be discussed, including a study of cameras, lenses, light and the controllers of exposure, and the proper use of the camera’s light meter. Introduction to White Balance, histograms and other digital controls. Composition techniques will also be explored, resulting in the improvement of creativity in your photographs. Use of a digital or film 35 mm SLR camera is required. Please note: Passport/Nexus/EDL required for field trips for all sections. 3 units of credit.
